The South Place Hotel opens its doors

South Place Hotel is the first hotel from venerable restaurant group D&D London, but – if we’ve counted correctly – the 84th restaurant and hotel design project we’ve worked on.

D&D, in partnership with South Place owner and developer Frogmore, plan to make South Place a hub where the City meets the East End to work and play.

South Place takes strong inspiration from East London’s thriving arts and culture scene. The Conran and Partners-designed interior is stuffed to the gunnels with original commissioned artwork, and the Hotel will play host to an annual South Place Hotel Art Prize. Conran Studio‘s branding, too, has taken its cues from the east.

The hotel is home to two restaurants and three bars. On the seventh floor, the Angler restaurant, overseen by Tony Fleming (formerly of One Aldwych), will serve up top-notch British seafood.

Next door, 3 South Place Bar will feature distinctive cocktails, a great selection of wines and Champagnes by the glass and an atmosphere that will be buzzing all day and late into the night, thanks in part to its 24-hour licence and after-hours DJs.

Design Week published a great feature on London’s hottest new hotel yesterday – and it has just been included in The Indepedent’s roundup of the world’s top art hotels.
