Conran: On the panel at Origin

The wonderful Origin craft fair, the Annual Showcase for original contemporary craft, relocates this year from Somerset House to the newly refurbished Old Spitalfields Market in the heart of creative London. This year they have shifted the timing around a bit too so the event coincides with The London Design Festival – it’s on from the 23rd-29th September 2010.

It brings together 220 of the most innovative UK and international makers for 1 week only, offering a rare chance to buy directly from the makers and meet them face to face.

The exhibitors are chosen by a panel of expert judges from the fields of art, design and craft and this year our very own Jill Webb from Conran and Company was among them.

She particularly liked some of the works in the ‘miscellaneous category’

“It felt right for me to give space to other disciplines in the show – many of these works made me smile which is something I always look for in an artwork or product.

For me it’s also very important for makers to realise the commercial opportunities that fairs like Origin can provide – it is now so much more than a consumer fair – it’s a great showcase for makers to promote their work on a more commercial level and take advantage of any commissioning opportunities that may be out there. Artists like Stine Jespersen for example, whose superb work I believe is highly commissionable”
