Conran’s making a splash: Lee Davies talks about the ‘Save Saltdean Lido Campaign’

As a big fan of lidos I’ve been really excited about the potential of getting involved with such a fantastic building – you’ll excuse my sheer joy as we’ve been formally appointed to assist the ‘Save Saltdean Lido Campaign’

So our role will be…..

Working with the campaign to look at the costs of restoration, through giving sustainable ideas on how the building might be better used, converted or extended. In conjunction with this we will be looking at ways of improving the building’s setting, including the landscape around it and its connection to the beach. As part of these plans we will also look at how we can make the water warmer – it’s freezing!

Personally I’ve been involved architecturally with two other Lidos, Brockwell Lido, also known as ‘Brixton Beach’, London and Pells Pool in Lewes, the oldest outdoor swimming pool in the country – I also love to swim in them and fully appreciate the passionate following they have.

Saltdean Lido is a fabulous example of 1930’s iconic architecture and builds on our already exemplary experience of dealing with such buildings…think Embassy Court, Michelin House etc.

Saltdean Lido is one of the most iconic buildings of the region and one of the finest lidos in the country. For me a great project to dive into………….

A recent picture taken when having a dip on one of the first opening days this season, brrrrr
